Michael Elenko

Michael Elenko considers photography to be his second language. He has been photographing and making prints for over 55 years using both film-based and digital tools.

Michael’s work has been featured in international fine art exhibitions in prestigious galleries across the US and recently, Scotland.

Michael’s focus has been on creating photographic images that convey his impressions of engaging with the world. Often he aims to reveal the power, forms, and tones of nature; other images convey the impacts of humanity’s interplay with artifacts of the material world, especially in urban environments.

“My through line with photography has always aimed to make visible the unseen. If you, the viewer, can engage with our shared reality just that much more, then I feel that deeper communication has occurred, and my photography is closer to being accomplished.”

In 2026 Michael’s vision expanded to the creation of Artist’s Books. The strong reception of Vashon Island Light has nurtured the creation of two new artworks: RED and YELLOW. Both Artist’s Books will be released at the VALISE Winter Show in November.
