“My work is about connecting with human emotions on paper and canvas. My subject is usually color. I enjoy exploring color interactions through the human form, botanicals and most recently travel scapes. I’m drawn in particular to the beautiful and complex human anatomy through the nude model. I like to find the immediacy of the figure through gesture drawings and connecting them to raw human feelings. Then I generally work from these drawings by translating the rawness, movement and lines that I find interesting with my interpreted color connections to the emotion of the figure.
Plant studies are a similar way for me to capture interesting line and color combinations. I also love travel and photography and use pictures from past trips as inspiration for paintings.
Color is always my subject and no matter what I am painting or drawing, I am always thinking about how certain color interactions can be powerful gateways to our emotions.” -Liz Maxfield
