Michelle Friars

Michelle works with carbon pencil, charcoal, and pan pastel to create drawings on paper. She loves the graphic nature of working in black and white and the uncluttered way this allows the expression of ideas.
Years of studying late medieval and early Renaissance art have given her a love of tales of the mysterious and miraculous and, although her subject matter is very different, she works to bring the same narrative sensibility to her art.
Michelle is also a digital photographer working in black and white. Work from the Bound/Unbound series has been chosen for publication in INPHA6, an annual book of selected international photography.
Michelle lives and works on Vashon Island and she shows in galleries and museums nationally.
