Jeff Farnam and Jiji Saunders

During July, VALISE Artist Collective and Gallery presents Jeff Farnam (Jeff mf) and Jiji Saunders.
Seattle artist Jeff Farnam (Jeff mf) strives to make undeniable, one of a kind, physical art by giving new life to things tossed aside. Colorfully curious characters grace his collection of paintings on wood and found objects. Of his art he asks, "Is it a stoned turkey grazing for grubs?  A green-eyed guppy looking for love? A crusty old cowboy on a three-legged cat? There's something rustling in the bushes and now you can’t turn back."
Also in the gallery this month, VALISE member Jiji Saunders installs an exhibit that, on the surface, seems to be a child’s birthday party. On closer inspection the sculpted figures appear peculiar and uncanny. “The characters I created reflect our cultural traditions around children, the tension between expectation and disillusionment, and the uncanny and deja-vu nature of successive birthdays.” Saunders' installation includes ceramic sculptures painted with encaustic wax and adorned by metal hats, crowns and bibs. It also includes oil paintings and photography and image transfer on wax.
Jeff Farnam (Jeff MF) and Jiji Saunders show through August 1. The opening reception is July 3 from 6 to 9 pm. VALISE Gallery is open on First Fridays from 6 to 9 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm and by appointment (206) 305-4917.
